“Polycrystalline samples of Gd(Co1-xFex)(2)B-2 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4) compounds have been prepared and their magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) have been studied by the magnetization and heat capacity measurements. As the Fe content x increases up to 0.4, the CA4P magnetic ordering temperature T-M increases gradually from 19 to 32 K, the maximum values of magnetic entropy change -Delta S-M(max) decreases gradually from 17.1 to 12.1 J/kg K without obvious hysteresis around its own T-M for a field change of 5 T, and the corresponding adiabatic temperature change Delta T-ad(max) also decreases gradually from 15.4 to 8 K. The reduction in the MCE of Gd(Co1-xFex)(2)B-2
system could be explained by the fact that the increase in the Fe content transforms the magnetic transition type from a first order type to a second order
type. The values of relative cooling power (RCP) are 462, 434, 499, and 415 J/kg for x 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 in Gd(Co1-xFex)(2)B-2, respectively. The magnetic transition and Fe substitution effect on MCE as well as its potential application in Gd(Co1-xFex)(2)B-2 system were discussed. (C) 2011 American Institute of Physics. “The effectiveness of compatibilizers in enhancing the dispersion of polypropylene (PP) at various molecular Autophagy Compound Library price weights in recycled polyethylene terephthalate (RPET) was elucidated. The idea of incorporating PP of different molecular weights evolved from the intention of simultaneously recycling the PET bottles together with the PP-based bottle caps, which are often of low molecular weight Selleckchem Ganetespib (Mw). Three grades of PP with known molecular weights were blended with RPET at various loadings of compatibilizers. Morphological analyses suggest that the dispersion of the PP particles was more homogeneous, and the average particle size was smaller
when low Mw PP was incorporated. This indicates that the interaction between the compatibilizer and PP particles was more intense with the presence of a large number but shorter PP molecular chains. Moreover, specimens containing low Mw PP were found to remain homogeneous regardless of compatibilizer and PP content in the RPET/PP blends. The homogeneity of the blends significantly affected their mechanical performance as well. Higher stiffness, yield strength, deformability, and toughness were observed when low Mw PP was incorporated, regardless of PP and compatibilizer loadings. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. “Background: Different techniques of liver parenchymal transection have been described, including the finger fracture, sharp dissection, clamp-crush methods and, more recently, the Cavitron ultrasonic surgical aspirator (CUSA), the hydrojet and the radiofrequency dissection sealer (RFDS). This review assesses the benefits and risks associated with the various techniques.
